Error in Connecting to SQL Server

If you happen to get this error while trying to access SQL Server Management Studio

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

then follow these steps:

  1. Open Services (run command ‘services.msc) then look for the service name SQL Server (MSSQLServer)*.
  2. Right click the service then select Start.
  3. The status should indicate that the service is running.
  4. You may now log in as soon as the service is up and running.
